CARMEN

Tjarnarbíó Theater / Kammeróperan

2026

This new version of Carmen, arranged by Austrian composer Tscho Theissing, features four singers and three musicians. The reduced cast and orchestra create a raw, energetic, and folk-inspired interpretation of this world-renowned opera. Under Adolf Unnarsson’s direction, the production emphasises the opera’s grittiness, with romance swiftly turning to violence in the hyper-romantic world designed by Andri Unnarson. Starring some of Iceland’s most exciting opera singers from the Kammerópera Ensemble, with Kristín Sveinsdóttir in the title role.

One nomination for Gríman, The Icelandic Theatre Awards 2026: Singer of the year.
