FASTEIGNAMARTRÖÐIN

Leikfélag Akureyrar

October 2026.

Fasteignamartröðin is a new play by Gabrielė Labanauskaitė. This is the first premiere outside the playwright's home country of Lithuania, but the play won the International Prize at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt in 2021.

Arnrún has just been dumped and needs to find an apartment. With her friend Póló, she sets out to find a new home but faces obstacles like awkward open-house visits and confusing meetings with bank loan consultants. This exciting play tackles Europe's housing crisis with humour, absurdity, and bravour. It mixes styles, structure, and forms in a contemporary work. The staging moves the setting from Lithuania to Akureyri. It connects generations across borders who face the same struggle: an inhuman housing market where people are treated as numbers, valued by credit scores and ratings.
